Sophia Lyon Fahs Chalice

Turned Chalices

Inspired by flowing curves and classic design, my Turned Chalices are beautiful to look at, and satisfying to hold. From small personal chalices you can carry with you, to large chalices for your sanctuary, my Turned Chalices are a great way to bring the beauty of nature into your life. I make each Turned Chalice one-at-a-time on my lathe, using salvaged hardwoods, mostly from my favorite tree, the Big Leaf Western Maple, native to my home in the Pacific Northwest. Each Turned Chalice is unique, telling a story of time and seasons passing, growth and struggle, birth and death.

When you order a Turned Chalice, I select the highest quality timber from my wood stash for your chalice, and I make every effort to replicate the size, shape, proportions, and curves of the chalice you ordered. Because each one is individually made, and because each piece of wood is unique, you may notice some slight differences between what you see here, and what you receive. Most of the wood available for my Turned Chalices is Big Leaf Western Maple, which I have a ready supply of. If you’d like a Turned Chalice in a different wood, though, just send me a note using my contact form and I’ll see what I can do.

In addition to these, I also make custom turnings…vases, bowls, pens, candlestick holders, pepper grinders, and on and on. If you imagine it, I can probably make it. Let’s talk.

Sophia Lyon Fahs Chalice

$49.00

The Sophia Lyon Fahs Chalice honors the life of Unitarian Universalist religious educator Sophia Lyon Fahs (1876-1978), whose work helped lead a Unitarian revival in the 1940s, whose influence is still present today.

This is a small, personal chalice, perfect for your home or taking with you to small groups. Stands 2” tall x 3” wide. Designed to take a tealight candle, this chalice can also be custom laser-engraved on the bottom, with a quote or saying of your choice. Top engraving is not possible on this one, sorry. Laser-engraving not included in price. If you’d like me to engrave your chalice, add “Custom Laser Engraving on Turned Chalices” to your order.

Made from salvaged Big Leaf Western Maple, this chalice is made one-at-a-time for you. Please allow at least 7 days for me to make your chalice.

Finished to a shine with a shellac and carnauba wax friction polish, this chalice is meant to be touched and held and will look great for years.
