2009, 19" x 14" x 8", Apple with stoneware oil lamp.

2011, 77" x 55" x 2", Maple.  This low-relief carving is composed of 110 handprints from the staff and patients at St. Elizabeth Hospital, with raised text written by Toni Erickson, a long-time nurse at St. Elizabeth's.  It is displayed next to the entrance to the hospital chapel.  "Texere" is Latin for "to weave," and is the root for both "text" and "texture," reflecting the themes of much of my work, and this piece in particular.

Detail of "Texere," 2011, 77" x 55" x 2", Maple.  Each of the 110 carved handprints was taken directly from photocopies of the hands of the staff and patients of St. Elizabeth's Hospital.  Note how some are incised, while others are carved proud.  While each hand is on its own block, nearly all of the fingertips extend to adjacent blocks, creating an interwoven tapestry of interconnection.

Hand-carved panel for pulpit, 2004, 20" x 14" x 1.5", Maple, Kitsap Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Bremerton, WA.  This panel is mounted to the front of the pulpit, and is a beautiful reminder of the reasons for gathering to worship together.  Text is by former Unitarian Universalist Association President Rev. 2009, 15" x 15" x 1.5", Cherry.  Text by L. Griswold Williams, laser-engraved onto the chalice.  This chalice was commissioned not for a church, but for the office of David Norton.  The center hole takes a tealight candle.
